Online menopause consultation with a doctor

Medical Consultation

Online Menopause Consultation with a Doctor

Short answer

Hormonic Care's medical menopause consultation takes place via video call with licensed doctors and costs between 119 and 599 euros, depending on the scope. It covers perimenopause, menopause, and the time after: the doctor will assess your symptoms, clarify whether lab tests are useful, and discuss the next steps; it does not replace an examination at a gynecological practice.

Is this right for you?

Who is the menopause consultation intended for?

Menopause is the time of hormonal transition. It begins with perimenopause (the transitional phase before the last period, during which hormone levels fluctuate), usually between the early and mid-40s. Menopause is the last period, after which postmenopause follows.

Your cycle is changing and you are wondering if it is menopause.
You have symptoms such as hot flashes, sleep problems, or mood swings and would like to have them assessed.
You have had lab tests done and would like to know what they mean and what steps make sense now.

When the consultation is not right for you: Before the age of 40, in the case of bleeding after menopause (more than twelve months without a period), and in cases of very heavy bleeding, the investigation should first take place in a medical practice. In case of acute symptoms, heavy bleeding, lower abdominal pain, or a mental health crisis, contact the medical on-call service at 116 117, or the emergency services at 112.

Process

How does the online menopause consultation work?

  1. Free initial consultation (around 15 minutes)In the free initial consultation, you will clarify which consultation is right for your question. No obligation.
  2. Choose a consultation and book an appointmentYou choose a 30, 60, or 90-minute consultation and book your appointment online.
  3. Prepare documentsCycle data, lab results, and a list of your medications, supplements, and contraception.
  4. Video call with the doctorThe doctor will assess your situation and discuss the next steps with you.
Blood test

Do you need a blood test for menopause?

Usually not. The British NICE guidelines recommend diagnosing perimenopause in women over 45 with typical symptoms without a blood test. Between 40 and 45, an FSH test (FSH is follicle-stimulating hormone) may be useful in individual cases, but it is not meaningful while taking the pill. The doctor will first clarify whether lab results add anything. How much hormone tests cost is explained in the post Hormone test at the gynecologist: Costs and insurance coverage.

Content of the consultation

What does the doctor discuss in the menopause consultation?

  • Whether your age, cycle, and symptoms fit menopause or whether other causes, such as the thyroid gland, should be investigated.
  • Whether and which lab results are useful and how you can interpret existing results.
  • What options are available (lifestyle, sleep, micronutrients, herbal remedies) and where the evidence base is thin.
  • When a conversation about hormone therapy in a gynecological practice makes sense.

What signs there are is explained in the post Recognizing menopause symptoms, as well as the basics of the Guide to perimenopause and menopause.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

Can I have menopause medically assessed online?

Yes, via video, a doctor can assess cycle changes and symptoms and discuss the next steps. Examination and screening remain at your gynecological practice.

What is the difference between menopause and perimenopause?

Menopause is the general term for the time of hormonal transition. Perimenopause is the phase before the last period, menopause is the last period itself, and postmenopause begins after that.

Do I need a blood test for menopause?

Usually not. Over 45, typical symptoms are sufficient according to the NICE guidelines; between 40 and 45, an FSH test may be useful, but it is not meaningful while taking the pill.

How much does an online menopause consultation cost?

Depending on the scope, between 119 and 599 euros; the initial consultation is free. Billing according to GOÄ; reimbursement depends on your insurance plan.

Does the online consultation replace the gynecologist's office?

No. The consultation complements the practice. Whether a prescription is an option in an individual case is decided by the doctor based on medical indication. Screening remains at your practice.
